Solo exhibition of work by Kaz K Sherman, who choreographs, builds sets and props and works in sculpture, at Hair + Nails.
Kaz K Sherman returns to Hair + Nails Gallery with Aflutter Aflame Adrift, her second solo show with the gallery. The exhibition opens with a reception on Friday, November 6, from 7 to 10 PM, and stays on view from November 7 through December 30.
The work comes from more than 30 years as a freelance stage technician, technical director, and production manager. It was built over several years that spanned the pandemic, the death of her mother, the destruction of her studio, and a sidelining injury. Sherman works across dance, visual art, writing, and the manual trades: she choreographs and performs, builds sets and props, designs sound, and writes text, alongside woodworking, upholstery, glassblowing, and sculpture.
She has presented nationally at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, PS 122 in New York, UCLA, Fusebox Festival in Austin, and the Portland Museum of Contemporary Art/TBA Festival. Her recognition includes four MacDowell Fellowships, a Hodder Fellowship from Princeton, a NY Dance and Performance 'Bessie' Award, four McKnight Fellowships, and a Bush Artist Fellowship. Her work has also been featured in e-flux journal and Movement Research Performance Journal.
