A theatrical production of Agatha Christie's mystery story, featuring Hercule Poirot investigating a murder at a country estate.
The Hollow is coming to the Lyric Theatre at The Lowry from 20 to 24 April 2027, as part of a run of Agatha Christie plays that have been touring the UK in recent years. It's a stage adaptation of The Hollow, one of Christie's more unusual stories, and it arrives in Manchester after its opening run in Canterbury.
The plot centres on a weekend garden party hosted by Lucy and Henry Angkatell at their country estate. It's the kind of setting Christie does best — a small group of people gathered in one house — but things go south when a body is found poolside. From there, Hercule Poirot is called in to investigate, and the rest is classic Christie: a closed circle of suspects, a tangle of motives, and Poirot picking his way through it all until the truth comes out.
Behind the production are two names with a fair bit of Christie experience. Director Lucy Bailey has already helmed five of her adaptations, including Murder on the Orient Express and Titus Andronicus, and this is the latest to come from her. The script was adapted by Tamsin Oglesby, who took the original story and shaped it for the stage. It's part of a wider series of Poirot plays that have been touring the UK, so this is one of several Christie titles that have been brought to life for the theatre recently.
