A day dedicated to Pan-African and Global Majority films from the North of England, with screenings, Q&As, workshops and panels.
See My World Film Festival takes over Contact Theatre on Saturday 21 November, from 2 pm to 11 pm. It's the first edition of its kind, a full day dedicated to Pan-African and Global Majority films from the North of England. The festival is presented by Big People Community CIC and Big People Music, developed with support from Contact and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The day is built around Sasa Na Zamani ('Now and Then'), a Swahili phrase that serves as the starting point for the whole programme. It points to an African understanding of time where the past continues to shape the present and the future, and looks at how liberation is expressed, embodied and renegotiated within communities. That's the thread that runs through the films and everything else on the bill.
It's not just screenings, either. The day weaves film, culture, conversation and community together, with Q&As, workshops and panels led by the filmmakers themselves. There's a chance to explore Manchester through its archives, and immersive performances and exhibitions that bring in music and poetry. It's designed as a day you can spend from start to finish, rather than just popping in for a single film.
