A mixed bill of six newly commissioned dance works by DanceSyndrome, developed through its iCreate programme.
DanceSyndrome bring a mixed bill to the Quays Theatre at The Lowry on Thursday 19 November. The night is built around six newly commissioned dance works, all developed through the charity's iCreate programme, so it's a proper showcase of new material rather than a retrospective.
To get where this is coming from, it helps to know who DanceSyndrome are. They're an inclusive arts charity founded in 2009 and led by dance leaders with learning disabilities, working to inform and empower people through dance. They run community dance workshops across the North West and offer dance leadership training that lets people with and without learning disabilities become dance leaders themselves. They reach around 10,000 people each year and have performed across the UK, including at the Edinburgh Fringe, UDance and Making Moves. Dancer Ellie Bamber has been with the company since 2019.
That iCreate programme is the engine behind this particular show. It's the space where these six new pieces were developed, so the bill is a direct result of the work they've been doing behind the scenes. Seeing six different works in one night gives you a decent cross-section of what they've been up to, rather than just a single piece. It's a good way to see the range of the company's current output in one sitting.
