Museum After Hours

Museum After Hours takes over the Science and Industry Museum on Thursday 29 October, an adults-only Halloween night that mixes live entertainment, gaming, and Manchester's industrial history with a cosmic twist. The museum stays open long after its usual closing time, and the whole thing is geared towards an older crowd, so you can wander the galleries without dodging prams and school trips.

On the performance side, drag favourite Anna Phylactic takes to the stage with a cosmic cabaret of live vocals and a monster mash-up soundtrack. Beside her, the Robotic Man dances around the museum before delivering an electrifying performance and meeting visitors face-to-face. Between the two, there's a fair bit of live entertainment to work your way through.

What makes the night a bit different is that the museum's permanent galleries stay open. You can head into the newly re-opened Power Hall: The Andrew Law Gallery, the Textiles Gallery, Revolution Manchester and Experiment, where the sights, smells and sounds of the engine-driven ideas that started here and went on to change the world are on full display. There are space-themed games and the Power Up exhibition, which holds more than 150 consoles, sitting alongside the world-premiere Horrible Science: Cosmic Chaos. Food and drink, including an alien-themed cocktail, are available throughout the evening. And if you're out in the Upper Yard, Albert Slime-stein, a giant monster, pops up as part of the city's 'Halloween in the City' monster hunt.

It runs from 7:00pm to 10:00pm on 29 October at the Science and Industry Museum, Liverpool Road, M3 4JP, with tickets starting from £6.
