Concert by pianist Lise de la Salle with the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover conducted by Stanislav Kochanovsky, part of the International Concert Series and the Beethoven 200 series.
Lise de la Salle plays The Bridgewater Hall on Monday 12 October, with the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover conducted by Stanislav Kochanovsky. It's part of the International Concert Series, and it falls within the hall's Beethoven 200 season.
De la Salle is a pianist with more than twenty years behind her and a series of award-winning recordings on naïve. She's widely considered one of the major musicians of her generation, and the praise she gets is quite specific: Pierre Gervasoni of Le Monde described her playing as having such 'obviousness' that it prevents us from imagining any other possible interpretation. That's a high bar to set before you've even sat down.
The concert is part of Beethoven 200, a series The Bridgewater Hall has put together to mark the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven's death in 1827. The whole season gathers a selection of works centred on some of his most significant pieces — iconic symphonies, piano concertos, and deeply expressive piano sonatas — and keeps the focus on Beethoven at his most dramatic, lyrical and revolutionary. This particular night fits right into that, with de la Salle on piano and the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover providing the orchestral weight.

It's a Monday night, so it's an early-week outing rather than a weekend one. The concert starts at 7.30pm at The Bridgewater Hall, with de la Salle taking the lead and the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover behind her, conducted by Stanislav Kochanovsky.
