A screening of Danny Boyle's drama about Rupert Murdoch and The Sun, shown as part of the BFI London Film Festival's Manchester programme at HOME.
Ink, Danny Boyle's drama about Rupert Murdoch, is screening at HOME on Friday 17 October. It's part of the BFI London Film Festival's Manchester programme, so it's one of the festival's titles playing here in the city rather than over in London.
The film is set in 1969 and follows Murdoch after he acquired the British tabloid The Sun. He brought in editor Larry Lamb to turn its fortunes around, and the film suggests that out of that 'devil's pact', British journalism and society were changed forever. It's a look at the early days of the Murdoch empire and the shift in the British press that followed.
Boyle is known for his kinetic cinematic energy, and the screening is billed as a showcase of that style. It's his take on a particular moment in media history, with the 1969 setting putting the whole thing in the context of the era.
