Screening of the film 'Fjord' by Cristian Mungiu, part of the BFI London Film Festival 2026 extended programme.
HOME is screening Fjord on Saturday 17 October, a new film from Romanian director Cristian Mungiu. It's part of the BFI London Film Festival's extended programme, which runs screenings across the UK rather than keeping everything inside the capital.
If Mungiu's name doesn't ring a bell, you'll likely know 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, the film that put him on the international map. Fjord follows an evangelical family who move to a small Norwegian town. Their adjustment seems placid enough at first, but that changes when suspicions about their children's wellbeing put the parents under severe scrutiny. It's the kind of domestic drama that starts quiet and tightens as it goes, and the Norwegian setting adds its own cold, isolated atmosphere to the mix.
Because it's part of the London Film Festival's wider reach, you don't have to travel to London to catch it. It's playing right here in Manchester, and since it's a festival title, it's one of the few times it'll be on the big screen around here for a while. If you've followed Mungiu's work before, you know he tends to let a scene breathe and let the tension build slowly, and Fjord looks like it sits right in that same territory.
