A free live jazz tribute to the music of David Bowie by the Northern Lights Quartet, part of the Festive Live programme at Aviva Studios.
Northern Lights Quartet are playing a free jazz tribute to David Bowie at The Social, Aviva Studios on Sunday 27 December, from 5.45 to 6.45pm. It's a one-hour set, and it's part of the Festive Live programme running across the studios that winter.
The evening is built around Bowie's catalogue, and the quartet describes it as bringing renewed energy to his songs. It's staged in celebration of David Bowie: You're Not Alone, the Lightroom show running at Aviva Studios, so the two go hand-in-hand if you're spending time with his work that month. The set is suitable for all ages, with under-14s needing to be accompanied by an adult.
On stage are John Bailey on guitar, Richard Hammond on bass, Richard Wetherall on keyboard and Dave Walsh on drums. It's a full jazz quartet — guitar, bass, keys and drums — working through Bowie's songs rather than a singer-songwriter approach. The whole thing sits within the wider Festive Live programme, which brings together local choirs, bands and workshops, with hot chocolate on hand.
