African Soul Rebels live concert with Les Amazones d'Afrique, Gasper Nali and N'famady Kouyaté, part of The Bridgewater Hall's 30th Anniversary celebrations.
African Soul Rebels are at The Bridgewater Hall on Tuesday 13 October, part of Music Beyond Mainstream's live series. The night brings together three acts from across the continent: Les Amazones d'Afrique, Gasper Nali and N'famady Kouyaté.
Les Amazones d'Afrique lead the bill. They're a West African collective whose music fuses ancient roots with future-facing sounds, built around a message of strength, unity and change. They've played the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury and appeared on President Obama's playlist.
Gasper Nali comes from Lake Malawi, where he plays a non-traditional babatoni. He makes danceable Afro beats with a three-metre-long, one-stringed homemade bass guitar, a stick, an empty beer bottle and a cow-skin kick drum. N'famady Kouyaté moved from Guinea to Wales in 2019 and plays the balafon, a wooden xylophone sacred to West African griot and djeli heritage; he won the 2023 Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition.
