Two shows of Thurston Moore on guitar and Mark Wastell on percussion, a return to the Vortex of their electric guitar and drums collaboration.
Thurston Moore is back at Vortex Jazz Club on Sunday 8 November, playing with percussionist Mark Wastell. It's a return to the venue for the two of them, who played to a sell-out crowd there last December in a performance described as "deeply post-psychedelic, dreamlike in atmosphere, before expanding into the charming spasms of free jazz". The second show was added to the night because of popular demand.
Moore, born in Coral Gables, Florida, co-founded Sonic Youth in 1980 and helped shape indie and alternative art rock with his experimental guitar tunings and poetic lyrics. He's released solo material over the years, including Psychic Hearts (1994), recorded under the name David Adelmen, and Flow Critical Lucidity (2024). He also runs the independent label Ecstatic Peace and wrote Mix Tape: The Art of Cassette Culture (2005). In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked him and Lee Ranaldo as the 33rd and 34th best guitarists of all time.
