A 1920s Halloween fancy dress ball with live jazz from Elise Roth and the High Spirits, burlesque, a resident MC, tarot reading and dinner at the speakeasy.
The Candlelight Club is hosting its Halloween Ball on Saturday 31 October, from 7:00 pm to 1:00 am. It's a secret location in south London (SW17 9NA), and the exact address is emailed to you two days before the night. The club is a 1920s-themed speakeasy that stages its parties in a venue lit by hundreds of candles, with live jazz, cabaret and retro DJs. A Time Out reviewer once called it the closest thing to an authentic Jazz Age experience in central London.
On the music side, Elise Roth and the High Spirits lead the night, playing melodies from the 1920s and 1930s. They're joined by burlesque performer Suri Sumatra, resident MC Ghost With the Most (Champagne Charlie), and the Bees Knees on the decks. There's also tarot reader Lucius and a pop-up from Krausz Jewellery. The room is dressed with cobwebs and jack-o'-lanterns, but the brief leans into the Jazz Age rather than the macabre: the 1920s idea of a Halloween costume was more about glamour than gore, and guests are expected to dress the part in smart 1920s attire. Trainers, T-shirts, jeans and hoodies are discouraged.
