Author talk and book launch with Tharik Hussain and Shafik Meghji, marking the release of 'Muslim Europe' and the Bradt Guide to Muslim Britain and Ireland.
Tharik Hussain is in conversation with Shafik Meghji at The London Archives on Thursday 12 November, from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. It's a double launch: the paperback release of Hussain's Muslim Europe and the first Bradt Guide to Muslim Britain and Ireland by Meghji.
Hussain's book traces more than 1,400 years of Muslim history across the continent, starting with the first Muslims to arrive in 647 AD. He argues that Islam was integral to Europe's development for over a millennium, rather than a recent arrival. Meghji's guide takes a more local focus, mapping the Islamic heritage of the British Isles from the 8th century to the present. Put together, they cover the broad European sweep and the specific British story.
Both come from a journalistic background. Hussain has written for The Times, The Guardian, The Telegraph, National Geographic Traveller and Al Jazeera, and won the Adele Evans Award. Meghji is an award-winning journalist who's co-authored more than 45 guidebooks. The evening is a conversation between the two of them, so you'll hear them talk through their work rather than just listen to a lecture.
