Free public lecture at LSE on the sovereign climate transition, drawing on the TPI Centre's 2026 report and the ESRC Festival of Social Science.
The TPI Centre is hosting a public event at LSE on Tuesday 3 November, from 6.30pm to 8pm, titled State of the sovereign transition 2026: from national targets to sector signals. It's running both in-person at the Hong Kong Theatre in Clement House and online, so you can catch it from home if you can't make it into central London.
The evening is built around the State of the Sovereign Transition 2026 report, which comes out on the same day. The report's main finding is that meeting national climate targets now depends more and more on mobilising private capital and turning broad ambitions into sectoral transition plans that the private sector can actually act on. The session also draws on the Centre's ASCOR tool — Assessing Sovereign Climate-related Opportunities and Risks — to point out common gaps and emerging best practice in climate policymaking.
It's a broad conversation that brings together investor, multinational development bank, and government perspectives on sectoral transition planning and the new financial instruments sovereigns are using to raise transition finance. The panel is chaired by Carmen Nuzzo, Professor in Practice and Executive Director of the TPI Centre, and features Marjan Divjak, Director General of the Treasury Directorate at Slovenia's Ministry of Finance; Jana Harvey, Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager at RBC BlueBay; Maya Hennerkes, Managing Director for Environment and Sustainability at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development; and Setenay Hizliok, Policy Fellow and Research Project Manager at the TPI Centre.

The session falls in the week before COP31 and forms part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science 2026, which runs from 17 October to 7 November across the UK. The TPI Global Climate Transition Centre was established in June 2022 at LSE as an academic research centre dedicated to independent research and data on how corporate and sovereign entities move towards a low-carbon economy. Entry is free.
