A free service at St Paul's Cathedral marking the tenth anniversary of AtaLoss and launching the Bereavement Matters season of remembrance and support.
AtaLoss is marking ten years with a service at St Paul's Cathedral on Friday 30 October, from 5pm to 6pm. It's a double-header of a sort: the tenth anniversary of the website and the launch of the Bereavement Matters Season, a new annual two-month period of remembering, awareness and support that runs through November and December.
AtaLoss is a UK-wide bereavement signposting and information website, and the new season grew out of the 2022 UK Commission on Bereavement report, Bereavement is everyone's business. That report set out 27 recommendations across eight principles, and this inaugural season focuses on one of them: 'I can easily find and access the right emotional bereavement support for my circumstances.' Purple is the season's colour, chosen for remembrance and reflection.
The service itself brings together bereaved people, bereavement services, community leaders and public figures through music, readings and prayer, with the aim of shining a light on the realities of grief and sparking more conversations about death. There's a special time of remembering during the hour, when candles are lit in memory of loved ones. It's the kind of thing that works better in a room than on a screen, with people from different walks of life sitting together in the same space.
