Simply Red play their first outdoor tour since their 40th anniversary celebrations with 'Summer Funk '27' at Gunnersbury Park.
Simply Red play Gunnersbury Park on Friday 13 August 2027, as part of their Summer Funk '27 tour. It's their first run of dates since the anniversary shows they played in 2015 and 2025, and this one is built around outdoor shows. Mick Hucknall describes it as "fun in the sun with friends and family."
The set leans on the band's upbeat material: the rush of 'Fairground', the funk of 'Something Got Me Started' and the soul of 'Money's Too Tight (To Mention)'. It's a tour that takes them to historic sites like the Anfiteatro agli Scavi in Pompeii and Pula's Colosseum, alongside natural settings like Sauerland Park in Hemer, with the London date fitting that outdoor pattern.
Simply Red formed in Manchester in 1985 and broke through with the debut album Picture Book and its lead single 'Holding Back the Years'. Their 1991 album Stars became one of the biggest British records of the decade, spending twelve weeks at number one and topping the UK charts in both 1991 and 1992. They toured little after 2010, returning in 2015 for their 30th anniversary and later celebrating their 40th in 2025. Summer Funk '27 is their first tour since those anniversary celebrations.
