Jazz concert by Sarathy Korwar, with saxophonist Chris Williams for the closing set, at The Wilds in Barking Riverside as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.
Sarathy Korwar plays The Wilds at Barking Riverside on Friday 13 November, part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. The night is split into two: Korwar plays the first set with his own trio, and then saxophonist and composer Chris Williams joins them for the closing set.
Korwar is a drummer, composer, producer and bandleader who's built a reputation as one of the most original voices in the UK jazz scene. His music blends jazz and electronics with Indian folk and classical influences, and he describes his work as being driven by themes of decoloniality, community, race and transcendence. His latest album, There Is Beauty, There Already, celebrates the melodic and rhythmic power of the drum ensemble. He's picked up two Grammy nominations, an AIM Award, MOJO Jazz Album of the Year and The Guardian Best Global Album of 2022/2025, and has toured and collaborated with Anoushka Shankar, Kamasi Washington, Metropole Orchestra and Shabaka Hutchings.
The show sits within the festival's Barking Riverside programme, which celebrates the music and culture of South Asia and its intersection with jazz. Barking Riverside itself is one of Europe's most exciting new neighbourhoods, bringing thousands of new homes to East London. The venue is The Wilds, on Northgate Road, IG11 0AN.
