Relaxed session for disabled and neurodivergent visitors and their families to see Ana Mendieta's work, including her 'Silueta' series, at Tate Modern.
Tate Modern is running Relaxed Hours for its Ana Mendieta exhibition, with the next session on Tuesday 20 October from 10.00 to 11.00. It's a quieter way to see the work of the Cuban-born American artist, who was active in the 1970s and early 80s and whose legacy changed the course of contemporary art. These sessions run every third Tuesday of the month, so if you can't make this one, there are more on 17 November and 15 December.
Mendieta is best known for her Silueta series, where she worked with the presence and absence of the human body using natural materials like fire, water and flowers, recorded as photographs and films. This is the first in-depth UK show of her work in more than ten years, and it brings together those iconic pieces alongside newly remastered films, early paintings and late sculptures, many of which have never been seen in the UK before. Her work continues to raise questions about displacement and identity that remain highly relevant today.
The sessions are open to anyone disabled or neurodivergent, plus their families, friends and carers. On the day, there's an Access Station, ear defenders and a quiet breakout space available. The exhibition itself runs until 17 January 2027, so you've got plenty of time to fit it in if you can't make the relaxed hours.
