Diwali celebration ball by the Queen Mary Indian Society at Ministry of Sound with resident DJs, free sweets, henna art and traditional wear competitions.
Queen Mary Indian Society are taking over Ministry of Sound for their Diwali Ball on Monday 9 November, and it's a student-only night. If you're not a student, this one isn't for you, but if you are, it's a proper Diwali celebration in the heart of London.
The music is the main draw here, spread across four rooms with resident DJs keeping things going throughout. Having four rooms means you can drift between different sounds over the course of the night rather than being stuck with one vibe. Along with the dancing, there are free sweets and henna art on offer, and traditional wear competitions, so it's as much about the dress and the food as it is about the music.
It's worth knowing who's behind it, too. Queen Mary Indian Society also runs Desi Beatz, which they bill as the UK's first ever Desi festival, in association with @DesiBeatzUK. This ball sits alongside that work, so it's part of a wider commitment to bringing Desi music and culture into the city's nightlife.

On the practical side, it's a late one: it runs from 10:30pm until 4:00am, so you've got plenty of time to work your way through the rooms. Tickets are £4 to £11, depending on when you get yours. If you're planning to go, just keep in mind it's student-only, so have your ID ready.
