Philosophy discussion session run by the London Philosophy Collective, with three breakout groups exploring abstract ideas.
Philosophy in the Park returns to the Barbican Centre on Saturday 14 November, from 1 pm to 4 pm. This is session 152, run by the London Philosophy Collective, and it's held on Level Minus 1, just outside The Hall.
If you've never been, the Collective describes it as a fun and friendly space for people to come together and have deep discussions, where active creative thinking is encouraged and everyone explores abstract concepts with both sincerity and playfulness. The sessions focus on abstractions and ideas rather than science or the physical world, with identity, morality, mind and truth among the usual territories. No previous philosophical experience is needed: each hour opens with a group vote on which questions to discuss, and the room then breaks out into smaller groups, with the chosen question serving as a starting point rather than a fixed agenda. The afternoon runs for three hours across three breakout sessions, and the group traditionally finishes at The Shakespeare pub around the corner.

It's a low-pressure way to spend a Saturday afternoon in the city — you pick the questions you're actually interested in, and the conversation goes wherever it takes you. If you're into big ideas but aren't looking for a lecture, this is exactly that: a few hours of talking through things with a room full of strangers. The whole thing runs from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Barbican, with the pub trip usually following on.
