Outdoor Oktoberfest festival on Clapham Common with a giant tent, oompah music, a dancefloor, fairground rides and Bavarian food.
Oktoberfest on the Common returns to Clapham Common from 17 to 24 October, with nine sessions running over six days. It's brought to the park each autumn by the Oktoberfest Events Gruppe, who pitch a giant tent on the common and fill it with Bavarian culture. They call it the UK's biggest outdoor Oktoberfest, and the scale of it is a good starting point: it's a proper festival setup rather than a few tables in a pub.
Inside the tent, the music is the main thing. There's live oompah, DJs, a huge dancefloor and crowd games to keep things moving. Around the edges, you'll find fairground rides, axe throwing, keg tapping, photo booths and traditional games like hammerschlagen. It's a lot to work through in one go, so you can pick your own pace.
The food is a Bavarian feast. There's bratwurst in brioche buns with sauerkraut and mustard, Bratkartoffeln, pretzels, schnitzel and frikadellen pork burgers, with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options on the menu too. If you're going with a group, there's also a chance to win a VIP table and drinks for up to six people.
