Three ghostly tales adapted and performed in Dickensian style in the museum's Drawing Room, after the museum has closed to the public.
Dominic Gerrard brings three ghostly tales to the Charles Dickens Museum on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 October, performed in the Drawing Room — the same room Dickens used to entertain his guests. The show runs for an hour and is recommended for ages 12 and over, staged after the museum has closed to the public. The venue itself is the preserved London home of Charles Dickens, a Georgian townhouse open Wednesday to Sunday.
'Sikes and Nancy' draws on the murder scene from Oliver Twist, a sequence Dickens himself was at first afraid to perform and which sent shockwaves through his audiences. 'The Lawyer & The Ghost' follows a young lawyer moving into cheap, mouldering lodgings in one of London's most ancient Inns, only to discover he isn't alone. 'The Dead Hand' is one of Wilkie Collins' rarer ghost stories, following a reckless Arthur Holliday seeking shelter for the night in Doncaster. Gerrard adapts and performs all three in a Dickensian style, with Adam Cunis on the programme.
