Concert by the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, directed and played by Pekka Kuusisto, that turns the life and influence of composer Nadia Boulanger into a musical story.
Pekka Kuusisto and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra are at Queen Elizabeth Hall on 1 and 2 May 2027 with Nadia B Was Here, a concert-theatre piece built around the life of Nadia Boulanger. Kuusisto leads the orchestra from the violin, and the whole thing runs about an hour and a half.
Boulanger was one of the most influential figures in 20th-century music, and the show treats her life, her teaching, and her views as a musical story. It's less a standard concert and more a look at her charisma and the legacy she left behind. The programme brings together composers she taught, revered, or worked with, so you'll hear music by Lili and Nadia Boulanger, Monteverdi, Bach, Piazzolla, and Philip Glass in one go.
It follows the orchestra's earlier DSCH, which mixed music, lighting, and visual elements to push past the usual concert format, so expect this to be more than just a band on a stage. Kuusisto is a Southbank Centre Resident Artist for Classical Music for the Spring/Summer 2027 season, and this is part of that residency.
