Concert by the Mystery Ensemble of the music from The Twilight Saga, with strings and piano, in St Gabriel's Church, Pimlico.
Mystery Ensemble are bringing the music of The Twilight Saga to St Gabriel's Church in Pimlico on Friday 30 October. It's a one-night-only show, with the music reimagined for strings and piano and described by the ensemble as a nocturnal ritual built on shadow, light and sound. The programme follows Bella and Edward's story from their first meeting in the forest through to the Volturi Waltz and the promise of 'forever'.
There's a fair bit to get through. The set draws on the three composers who shaped the saga's sound: Carter Burwell, with Bella's Lullaby, The Lion Fell in Love with the Lamb and I Know What You Are; Alexandre Desplat, with The Meadow, Marry Me and the Volturi Waltz; and Howard Shore, with Jacob's Theme. Alongside those are arrangements of the songs that became part of the story: Christina Perri's A Thousand Years, Sleeping at Last's Turning Page, Iron & Wine's Flightless Bird, American Mouth, Muse's Supermassive Black Hole, Paramore's Decode, Lykke Li's Possibility and The Black Ghosts' Full Moon.
Behind the music is the Mystery Ensemble, founded in 2021 by Almin Alexander. They're a group of professional musicians who specialise in playing in non-standard venues, and they've built their reputation on tribute concerts to composers like Ludovico Einaudi, Hans Zimmer, John Williams and Ólafur Arnalds, as well as soundtracks from Harry Potter, Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings. This is more of the same: taking music known from the screen and moving it into a live, acoustic setting.
