Moor Mother (Camae Ayewa) plays her 'Fetish Bones' 10th anniversary tour at the ICA, with harpist Eve Matin and sound designer Alex Rapp.
Moor Mother plays the Institute of Contemporary Arts on Sunday 8 November, as part of the tenth-anniversary tour for Fetish Bones. The set is a collaboration: she'll be joined by harpist and composer Eve Matin, with artist and sound designer Alex Rapp on the bill too.
Moor Mother is the stage name of Camae Ayewa, a musician, poet, and visual artist who also teaches composition at the USC Thornton School of Music. She's a member of Irreversible Entanglements and 700 Bliss, and Fetish Bones was her debut, released in 2016. It was named Album of the Year by The Wire and Jazz Right Now, and the track 'Deadbeat Protest' made both Pitchfork's and Noisey's Best Songs of 2016. Bandcamp named her 2016 Artist of the Year. The album's tenth-anniversary edition, pressed by Don Giovanni Records, adds a previously unreleased bonus track, 'Marian Anderson', which she recorded with Wolf Weston and Wooden Elephant.
Eve Matin is a Peruvian-Persian harpist and composer, the first woman to graduate from the Peruvian National Music Conservatory; she debuted at 17 with the National Symphonic Orchestra of Peru. Together they'll be working through Fetish Bones, a record that fused punk's visceral anger with Sun Ra's improvisatory spirit.
