Magic lantern show by Jeremy and Carolyn Brooker of the Magic Lantern Society with live piano by Costas Fotopoulos, opening with a late view of the 'Londoners on Trial' exhibition.
Jeremy and Carolyn Brooker are back at The London Archives on Thursday 3 December, with a magic lantern show accompanied on piano by Costas Fotopoulos. The evening runs from 6:45pm to 8:45pm, and it opens with a late view of the Londoners on Trial exhibition, alongside a one-off curated display of Christmas-related archival materials.
The show is built around an authentic triunial magic lantern, the most complex and rarest form of the medium, which combines three projectors into a single device to produce fast-moving shows with spectacular effects. Jeremy and Carolyn Brooker, both of the Magic Lantern Society, have performed together for over 20 years perfecting the demanding art and return for a third year with a show devised specifically for the evening.
The venue itself is a free public archive devoted to London's history from 1067 to the present day, housing millions of manuscripts, maps, photographs, letters, books and films. It rebranded in August 2024 from London Metropolitan Archives and is funded and managed by the City of London Corporation. This late view forms part of a wider programme of after-hours performances and themed events.
