Informal analog-synthesis meetup where enthusiasts of all levels plug in and experiment with patching and sound design.
Voltage Controlled Dreams are holding another patching session at the Michigan Bldg on Sunday 18 October, starting at 21:15. It's run by a local community of analog synth enthusiasts, and the whole thing is built around the tactile, unpredictable side of synthesis — the kind of thing that happens when you're working with physical cables and knobs rather than screens and menus.
The session is pitched at everyone from beginners who are still getting their head around the basics of signal flow to people with a well-developed rack they want to put through its paces. The focus is simply to plug in, experiment and share techniques in a relaxed, informal environment. You're encouraged to bring your own gear, but you can also just come along to listen and ask questions if you're not quite ready to patch in yourself.
Over the course of a night, the conversations tend to cover a broad spread of ground. Some people might be talking through maintenance and DIY builds, while others are swapping sound-design techniques or chatting about the specific quirks of different oscillators and filters. It's as much about the gear as it is about how to use it, and there's usually plenty of room to just tinker and see what happens when you change a few connections.

Because it's a community-run meetup, an RSVP is requested. The session kicks off at 21:15 at the Michigan Bldg, so if you're into analog synthesis and fancy a night of patching with other people who are too, that's the one.
