Chamber music concert by London Concertante, led by cellist Chris Grist, of Mozart and Schubert pieces by candlelight in Hanover Square.
London Concertante are playing at St George's Church, Hanover Square on Friday 23 October, as part of their London Concertante Chamber Series. The evening is billed as Mozart & Schubert by Candlelight, and the music starts at 19:00.
London Concertante is one of the country's leading chamber orchestras, led by artistic director and cellist Chris Grist, who performs around a hundred concerts a year. They don't stick to one corner of the classical world, either: their programmes run Mozart and Schubert alongside gypsy and Latin American repertoire, including the tango compositions of Astor Piazzolla. That mix of the familiar and the unexpected is a good way to get a feel for how they work.
The venue is St George's Church in Hanover Square, Mayfair, a Georgian Anglican church known for its architectural heritage and for hosting classical and candlelight concerts. It's a space that lends itself to the candlelight format, so if you're coming for the atmosphere as much as the music, this is the right kind of room for it.
