The Chineke! Orchestra, conducted by Anthony Parnther with Elena Urioste on the violin, plays 18th-century music and the world premiere of a new work by Nneka Cummins.
Chineke! Orchestra play Queen Elizabeth Hall on Saturday 13 March 2027, with Anthony Parnther conducting and violinist Elena Urioste on soloist duties. The programme pairs the lively musical world of the late 18th century with a brand-new work by Chineke!'s Composer in Residence, Nneka Cummins, an Ivor Classical Award winner whose piece gets its world premiere here.
The first half opens with Marianna Martines, an 18th-century Viennese keyboard virtuoso and singer whose music has only recently begun to receive the recognition it deserves, in her Symphony in C. Next comes Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, whose Violin Concerto in D is brought to life by Urioste, a long-time Chineke! collaborator; Bologne was renowned across Europe as a violinist, composer and conductor. The programme culminates in Mozart's Symphony No. 41, the 'Jupiter', his final symphony.
