José González plays the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith with Beth Orton as supporting act.
José González plays the Eventim Apollo on Thursday 26 November, with Beth Orton opening the night. It's a big room for a singer-songwriter, but González has a habit of filling them: he sold out the Royal Albert Hall three years after Vestiges & Claws came out in 2015, and he's played packed venues from Sydney to Tallinn.
He's a slow-and-steady sort of artist. In eighteen years he's put out only three solo albums, but the work has reached far beyond the folk circuit. You'll likely know his cover of The Knife's 'Heartbeats' from a Sony BRAVIA ad, and his take on Massive Attack's 'Teardrop' featured in Netflix's The Last Dance. He sang with Sia on Zero 7's 'The Garden' and his music dominated the soundtrack to Ben Stiller's The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. He's also worked in gaming: 'Far Away' from Red Dead Redemption won Best Song in a Game at the 2010 Spike VGA Awards.
That track record has translated into gold and platinum records in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden, and he recently passed a billion streams on Spotify. The night is at the Eventim Apollo, the legendary Hammersmith venue with a capacity of around 3,600 that's hosted some of the most memorable concerts in rock history alongside comedy and theatre.
