Brother-and-sister folk duo Johnny and Lillie Flynn play Royal Festival Hall with original songs, reworkings and covers from their album 'Beam Cottage'.
Johnny Flynn plays Royal Festival Hall on Saturday 21 November, and this time he's not on his own. He'll be sharing the stage with his sister, Lillie Flynn, for a set that draws from their latest record, Beam Cottage.
They're a brother-and-sister duo of actors and musicians playing music rooted in the folk, acoustic and traditional styles they grew up with. Beam Cottage takes its name from their childhood home, which they describe as 'an idyll of happiness and togetherness before life began to feel more complicated'. It's Johnny's seventh album, and it brings together original songs the two wrote, a lullaby written by their father, reworkings from Johnny's extensive catalogue and covers of songs they grew up singing, including those made famous by Johnny Mercer, Hank Williams and Billy Bragg.
While Lillie has always been involved in Johnny's recording and touring, the idea behind this record was 'to stand alongside each other equally, to celebrate our friendship and connection'. That's the dynamic you'll see on stage: the two of them playing together rather than one backing the other.
