Immersive acoustic show in total darkness where around 30 musicians play ambient, nu-folk and experimental music while the audience wears eye masks.
In The Dark is coming to St John's Hyde Park for four nights this autumn: Friday 30 October, Saturday 31 October, Thursday 10 December and Friday 11 December. Each of those dates has two shows, one at 6:30pm and another at 8:45pm, so you've got a fair few slots to choose from across the two months.
It's an immersive sound experience rather than a gig in the usual sense. An ensemble of around 30 live musicians surrounds the audience in total darkness, and everyone wears an eye mask, so there's no programme to follow and nothing to see. The performance lasts about 75 minutes and is 99% acoustic, drawing on ambient, Scandi, nu-folk and experimental music with hints of electronic and classical sounds. The musicians move and change position throughout, playing past, above and through the audience, and the acoustics of the historical venue are said to work perfectly for it.

It's a show that's drawn rave reviews from critics, who've called it 'the best musical experience of my life', 'the panacea the world needs right now' and one that 'redefines the live music experience'. If you're used to watching a band from a distance, this is a different way of listening: you're inside the sound, and since you can't see where it's coming from, it's hard to pin down. Tickets start from £48.00, which includes the booking fee, and you'll find them at ents24.com.
