Annual site-specific work by an invited artist in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern, the 12th Hyundai Commission.
Tate Modern is bringing back the Hyundai Commission in 2027, the twelfth edition of the series that takes over the Turbine Hall. If you've been to the gallery before, you know the hall is the first thing you hit when you walk in — a massive industrial space that's hosted some of the most ambitious site-specific works the city has seen since the museum opened in 2000. Each year, a different artist is invited to create a new piece specifically for the hall, and the whole point is to see how they handle a room that big.
This is the twelfth commission in the series, which has drawn more than 19 million visitors over the last decade. It's made possible by the partnership between Tate and Hyundai Motor, which started in 2014 as the longest initial commitment from a corporate partner in Tate's history and has since been extended until 2036. The gallery itself is a converted power station on the south bank of the Thames, known for its stark white rooms and its viewing gallery over the river.
