Musical parody of the Canadian hockey TV series Heated Rivalry, performed by a cast of Broadway actors on a small stage.
Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody plays at The Soho Revue Bar on Sunday 25 October, a musical parody inspired by the hit Canadian sports-romance television series about hockey. It follows the story of golden boy Shane Hollandner on his journey from power centre to power bottom, performed up close on a small stage by a cast of Broadway actors and carried by a bop-infused score. There are cameo characters including Rose Landry and Ilya's Ass, and time jumps throughout.
It's a small-scale production, with the Broadway cast performing right in front of you rather than from a distant stage, and the whole thing is built around a score of bops. The story takes the central relationship of the series and runs with it, following Hollander's trajectory from the hockey rink into the more romantic side of things. The cameos and time jumps mean it covers a fair bit of ground in a short space of time, rather than sticking to one linear stretch of the plot.
The show is recommended for ages 16 and over, so it's one to keep in mind if you're thinking of bringing anyone younger. It runs for about an hour and ten minutes, which is a handy length for a Sunday afternoon — in and out in just over an hour, and you're still back in time for your evening.
