Installation by Argentine artist Claudia Fontes that turns the lobby of 100 Bishopsgate into a glass conservatory inspired by the Palm House at Kew.
Claudia Fontes brings Glasshouse Stories to the lobby of 100 Bishopsgate on 16 March, and it stays put until 15 January 2027. The installation transforms the office reception into a contemporary glasshouse, with two sculptures, Choir (2026) and Hip (2026), curated by Gabriela Salgado.
The work comes from a series Fontes started in 2024, inspired by the dismantling of the Palm House at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew — an iconic 19th-century structure and World Heritage Site. Fontes 3D-scanned the migrant plants housed there with Dr Justin Moat, Head of Spatial Analysis at Kew, and read the shapes where they touch as pictograms, recombining them into resin forms. The installation reimagines the office reception as a conservatory and draws a material analogy between Kew's Palm House and the lobby of 100 Bishopsgate, smuggling non-human narratives into corporate space.
Fontes is one of Argentina's leading contemporary artists. She represented her country at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017 with The Horse Problem, took part in documenta fifteen in 2022, and her work is held in collections including MALBA and MAMBA in Buenos Aires and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. Glasshouse Stories won the Brookfield Properties x AWITA commission, which supports female creative talent in sculpture and curating.
