Talk by Alexis Papahelas chaired by Professor Vassilis Monastiriotis on the political and economic future of Greece, part of the Athens Lecture Series at the LSE.
Alexis Papahelas will be at the Sheikh Zayed Theatre in the Cheng Kin Ku Building on Monday 19 October, for a conversation about Greece's future in a fragmenting world. He'll be joined by Professor Vassilis Monastiriotis, who'll chair the session. It runs from 6.30pm to 8pm.
Papahelas is the executive editor of the Greek newspaper Kathimerini and a leading commentator for SKAI TV. He's spent years interviewing some of the biggest names in global politics and business, including Bill Gates and Presidents Obama, Clinton and Erdogan, and in 2015 POLITICO named him one of the most influential Europeans of the year. Monastiriotis is the Director of the Hellenic Observatory, a Professor in Political Economy, and the Eleftherios Venizelos Chair of Contemporary Greek Studies at the LSE European Institute.
The talk is hosted by the Hellenic Observatory at the London School of Economics, which in 2024 became the Hellenic Observatory Centre for Research on Contemporary Greece and Cyprus, an internationally recognised research centre on contemporary Greece and Cyprus. It's part of the Athens Lecture Series, which brings together Greek and international scholars and policymakers to debate the political and economic future of Greece and the wider region. The session also sits within the ESRC Festival of Social Science 2026.
