FKJ, the French electronic, R&B and funk artist behind 'Vincent' and 'Tyber', plays live at Exhibition over two nights.
FKJ is playing Exhibition London on Thursday 29 and Friday 30 October, two nights in a row. If you're not familiar with the name, FKJ stands for French Kiwi Juice, and his work sits across electronic, R&B, funk and soul, usually blending downtempo grooves with neo-French house.
Much of the material he's been playing lately comes from his second album, V I N C E N T, which he recorded during lockdown, alone in a remote home studio in East Asia. After that record came out, his career went into a period of relentless world touring, and he's spoken about how his personal life floundered during that time. He became interested in the Hinduistic belief that turning 33 is a tumultuous age, and found that he and many of his friends had gone through similar troubles around that time.
His latest work, Tyber, is presented as a document of his self-discovery since V I N C E N T. He describes a transformative experience in which he encountered a tree-like figure he named Tyber, which he says changed everything. Stylistically, Tyber is more adventurous than what came before, flowing through funk, jazz, rock, alt-pop and R&B. These are the sounds he's bringing to the stage, so you'll hear the newer, more varied material alongside the downtempo grooves he's known for.
