World premiere of 'Flight Pass', a new work for classical piano trio by Fergus McCreadie, at Kings Place for the EFG London Jazz Festival.
Fergus McCreadie plays Kings Place (Hall One) on Friday 13 November, as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. It's the world premiere of Flight Pass, a new work for classical piano trio commissioned by Chamber Music Scotland and Kings Place. The piece runs across four movements, all drawn from a photograph of a black-winged kite and its offspring.
On piano is McCreadie himself, joined by double bassist David Bowden and drummer Stephen Henderson, with the Scottish cello and guitar duo Juliette Lemoine and Chris Amer also on the bill. McCreadie is a Mercury-shortlisted artist known for mixing jazz and Scottish folk, and Flight Pass marks a shift into classical territory. The Times described his music as "a giddying fusion of Scottish culture and jazz history," while NME called it "grand soundscapes with a real emotional core."
He's a Yamaha Artist and a member of the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist programme. In 2022, his album Forest Floor (Edition Records) became the first Scottish jazz record to win Scottish Album of the Year. He first spent his pocket money on an Oscar Peterson album around age twelve, and that early influence still sits behind the jazz side of his work.
