Femi Koleoso, drummer of Ezra Collective, brings his show 'Situation Dance', which mixes jazz, hip-hop, Afrobeat and UK dance music, to KOKO.
Femi Koleoso plays KOKO on Sunday 20 December, with the night running from 10:00pm until 5:00am. It's a late one, and the timing tells you exactly what this is: a club night rather than a seated concert. The set is called Situation Dance, and as the name suggests, it's built for movement.
Koleoso is the drummer and bandleader of the Mercury Prize-winning collective Ezra Collective, and over the last decade he's been pulling jazz towards hip-hop, Afrobeat, broken beat and UK dance music. That trajectory has taken him from London's jazz underground to stages like Glastonbury and Montreux. Outside the collective, his work has seen him collaborating across jazz, soul and electronic music. Situation Dance brings those influences together in a format meant for the dancefloor, drawing on the rhythmic foundations of his Nigerian heritage, London's club culture and the improvisational energy of jazz.
