Disney's award-winning musical, directed by Julie Taymor and with a score by Elton John, Tim Rice and Lebo M, at the Lyceum Theatre in Covent Garden.
Disney's The Lion King is still running at The Lyceum Theatre in Covent Garden, and it's now in its 28th year at the venue. The show follows Simba's journey from a wide-eyed cub to King of the Pridelands, and it's directed by Julie Taymor, whose reimagining of the original film won six Tony awards when it premiered on Broadway in 1997. The production is well known for its puppetry, its stage effects, and a score by Elton John, Tim Rice and Lebo M that includes 'Circle of Life', 'Hakuna Matata' and the Academy Award-winning 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight'.
Since it opened at the Lyceum in 1999, the show has welcomed more than 20 million British theatregoers and has been seen by over 110 million people worldwide. The theatre itself is owned and operated by The Ambassador Theatre Group.
The current cast features Cleveland Katnot as Mufasa, Lindiwe Mkhize as Rafiki, Dashaun Young as Simba and Josslynn Hlenti as Nala, with a Lionesses ensemble. The production runs through to 25 July 2027, so there's plenty of time to catch it if you're planning a trip to the West End.
