South London jazz trio Cymbals of Now play two sets at The Bloomsbury Club, part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.
Cymbals of Now play The Bloomsbury Club on Friday 13 November, as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. They're a South London trio that blends jazz and electronic sounds, and the club describes them as one of the most exciting new projects on the scene, fronted by three of London's most sought-after musicians.
The line-up is Pharoah Russel on drums, Jason Simpson on bass and synth, and Max Grunhard on saxophone and synth. With two of the three doubling up on synths, there's a strong electronic element running through the set, and the trio describes their approach as exploring uncharted sonic territory through a novel use of metallic resonance amplification. It's a specific way of working that puts the focus on texture and resonance, and the resulting sound sits somewhere between jazz and electronics.

Because it's part of the festival, the night is split into two sets: the first runs from 6:30pm to 8:00pm, and the second from 9:00pm to 11:00pm. Doors open at 6:00pm, so there's plenty of time to get in and settle before the first set kicks off. Entry is free with a minimum bar spend, which includes fees, and you'll need to book a table via the club's homepage in advance. The Bloomsbury Club is inside The Bloomsbury Hotel, 16-22 Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3NN.
