Two-hour guided walking tour through the City of London that uncovers the often-overlooked histories of Black individuals during the Tudor period.
City of London Guides are running the Black Tudors City of London Walk on Saturday 12 December, starting at Guildhall Yard (EC2V 5AE) at 11am. It's a two-hour walking tour that looks at the lives, contributions and legacies of Black individuals within London's social and economic life during the Tudor period — stories that usually get left out of the history books.
The route kicks off at the historic Guildhall and winds through the City, stopping at the guilds and liveries that formed the backbone of medieval and Tudor London. Along the way, the tour traces how perceptions of race evolved over the centuries, using researched accounts, primary sources and heraldry to bring these individual lives to the foreground. It's less about broad generalisations and more about the specific people who were actually here, working and living in the city during the Tudor era. The walk finishes at St Botolph Aldgate Parish.

It's part of Local London Guiding Day, a free guided tour offered by City of London Guides. The tour itself is two hours long, so you'll be back and about by early afternoon. Tickets are £10 for children and £15 for adults, and you'll need to book in advance. If you're planning to go, just remember it's a walking tour, so comfortable shoes are a must for the couple of hours on your feet.
