Ben Folds brings his 'Paper Airplane Request Tour' to the Royal Festival Hall, with a second half of audience-requested songs on paper planes, as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.
Ben Folds plays Royal Festival Hall on Friday 20 November, part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. It's his Paper Airplane Request Tour, and the night is split into two halves. The first half follows a setlist he's already picked out, but after the interval things change: he mixes in the audience's favourite Ben Folds songs, which are thrown onto the stage on paper planes when he cues them in the second half. You're encouraged to bring your own plane or make one at the venue, where there's pen and paper on hand.
Opening the evening is Lindsey Kraft, a pianist, songwriter and storyteller whose work blends sharp wit, emotional candour and theatrical flair. She'll get the room warmed up before Folds takes over for the main set.
Folds has a long career behind him, with a multi-platinum selling record and a body of genre-bending work that spans several different eras. There are the pop albums from his time fronting Ben Folds Five, his solo rock records, and collaborations with Sara Bareilles, Regina Spektor, Weird Al and William Shatner. This show draws from that whole catalogue, with the second half leaving the setlist open to what the crowd throws his way.
