Talk by Dr Jo Mueller on the inner critic in autistic and ADHD minds and how self-compassion can transform self-talk, wellbeing and resilience.
Dr Jo Mueller is taking the stage at The Blues Kitchen Brixton on Wednesday 25 November, as part of the Seed Talks series running across London. The talk is called Autism, ADHD & The Inner Critic, and it's aimed at over-18s.
Mueller is a clinical psychologist specialising in neurodivergent-affirming practice with more than 17 years of experience. She collaborates with King's College London on research and teaching aimed at improving support for neurodivergent people, and she's a co-founder of The Neurodiversity Practice. The session draws on compassion-focused and neuropsychological frameworks to look at the inner critic that so often runs through autistic and ADHD minds, and asks how self-compassion can transform self-talk, wellbeing and resilience.
It's described as a compassionate, evidence-based exploration of where that inner voice comes from, how it shapes everyday life and how to soften it. The talk also touches on the tendency for autistic and ADHD people to be told they're 'too hard on themselves' or that they 'overthink everything'βthe kind of things that can feel dismissive when you're living with them. The whole thing runs for about two and a half hours, so there's plenty of room to go into the detail rather than just skimming the surface.
