Fran Lebowitz, American cultural satirist and author, in conversation with Erica Wagner at the Barbican.
Fran Lebowitz is coming to Barbican Hall on Tuesday 27 October, where she'll be in conversation with Erica Wagner. It's a single evening, an hour and a half with no interval, so you're in for the full stretch without a break.
If you're not familiar, Lebowitz is an American cultural satirist, author and social commentator, and she's built a whole career on being pointed, forthright and unapologetically opinionated. Her thing is a dry take on American life and a long list of pet peeves that includes celebrity culture, tourists and baby strollers. She's written a column for Andy Warhol's Interview magazine and is as much a writer as she is a performer.
Most people will recognise her from the Netflix documentary series Pretend It's a City, directed by her good friend Martin Scorsese. It was a hit that offered a snapshot of New York in full bloom alongside her lively commentary on city life, and it's a good starting point if you want to get a feel for how she works before seeing her in person. The evening is recommended for ages 14 and over.
