London hip hop-meets-jazz trio JD3 plays a tribute to J Dilla at The Fox and Firkin, strictly 18+.
JD3 are playing The Fox and Firkin on Wednesday 28 October, a night dedicated to J Dilla, one of the most influential producers in hip hop history. The band is a London-based hip hop-meets-jazz trio that formed in 2017, and they describe themselves as a city supergroup of heavyweight musicians who come together to celebrate Dilla's work. The set runs from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm, so it's a mid-week one that stretches well into the evening.
On the night, the band is led by Duayne 'DS' Sanford on drums, with David Mrakpor on keys, Joon Switon on guitar, Jonathan Moko on bass, and Tinyman on MC. It's a full live band taking on Dilla's production, so the hip hop beats get a jazz treatment with drums, keys, guitar, and bass all playing live, with an MC on top. Sanford is the bandleader and founder, and he's played alongside Dua Lipa, Christine & The Queens, Liam Payne, Roots Manutra and Honne. Co-founder David Mrakpor comes from BlueLab Beats and The Banger Factory. Between them, they've worked across a fair bit of the London scene, and they've been playing as JD3 since 2017.
