Free weekly comedy open mic night at Kazimier Garden where anyone can watch or sign up to perform.
Witty Whippet is back at Kazimier Garden on Monday 19 October, the first of a weekly run that keeps going until 14 December. It's a comedy open mic, and that's exactly what it is: a night where the stage is open to anyone who wants to get up there. If you're just looking for a night out, you can come and watch; if you're feeling brave, you can sign up and perform yourself.
Because it's an open mic, the line-up changes from week to week. You'll get a mix of people — some who've been doing this a while and are using the night to test out new material, and others who might be stepping up to a microphone for the first time. That's the whole point of a night like this: you're seeing the work as it's being built, not a polished set that's been toured to death. It's a good way to see the local comedy scene from the inside, and if you're the one on stage, it's one of the best places to get a few minutes of stage time without a lot of pressure.
Since it runs every Monday through to mid-December, it's easy to make a habit of. You can drop in for one night and see who turns up, or keep coming back to see how the acts develop over the weeks. If you've got your own stuff you've been tinkering with, it's a regular slot to get it in front of a room and see what lands.
