Annual tribute to Ken Dodd with comedians and singers, Lady Anne Dodd and MC Sam Avery, marking his birthday at the Royal Court Theatre.
The Doddy Day Happiness Show returns to the Liverpool Royal Court Theatre on Sunday 25 October, the annual tribute to Ken Dodd. For those who know the name, he was 'The Squire Of Knotty Ash', a man who spent his life making people laugh, and the show is staged every year to mark his birthday. It brings together comedians and singers with a single aim: reducing the audience to helpless laughter.
It's a celebration of all things Doddy, and it keeps the traditions alive. You'll find jam butties and tickling sticks on stage, just as tradition demands, and signed books and DVDs available to buy. The evening is hosted by MC Sam Avery, who keeps the night moving between the acts.
One of the highlights is Lady Anne Dodd appearing in conversation with Tony Nicholson. Together they share clips from Ken Dodd's Happiness Show - The Lost Tapes, giving the night a personal connection to the man at the centre of it all. The rest of the bill is built around the same spirit — a mix of comedy and song that keeps the focus on the laughter.
