Free screening of the documentary 'The People's Emergency Briefing' on climate and nature, with limited seats and advance booking on Eventbrite.
The People's Emergency Briefing is being screened at the University of Liverpool on Monday 19 October, from 5.30pm to 7pm, with doors opening at 5pm. It's a 50-minute documentary that brings together nine leading UK scientists and experts to look at what the latest evidence on climate and nature actually means for everyday life in the UK. It doesn't stick to the abstract; it covers extreme weather, food security, health, and the cost of living, so it's more about the things that touch on the day-to-day than a high-level overview.
The film is based on the National Emergency Briefing presented in Westminster, and it's had a fair bit of airtime, with features on ITV, Channel 4, and in The Times. You'll recognise Chris Packham and Deborah Meaden, and they're joined by voices from communities across the country, so it's not just experts talking at the camera. The whole thing runs for 50 minutes, which is short enough to take in one sitting without it feeling like a slog.
This particular screening is presented by the University of Liverpool's Centre for Sustainable Business, working with the Centre for Joined-Up Sustainability Transformations (JUST) and the University's Sustainability team. JUST operates across five regions of the North of England, including Merseyside, and focuses on people-centred, joined-up and socially just sustainability transformations. It's not a one-off here, either: this is part of more than 3,500 screenings planned at universities nationwide, so the Liverpool showing is one of many happening across the country.
