A multilingual solo show by Antonella Fittipaldi exploring queer identity, desire, shame and the struggle to live in the present, performed in English, Italian and Neapolitan with surtitles.
Scaleno is playing The Studio Beyond from 15 to 17 October, as part of the Liverpool Fringe. It's a multilingual solo show by Antonella Fittipaldi, a Neapolitan playwright and performer who wrote and performs the piece herself.
On stage, Fittipaldi shares the space with two internal voices, moving from the past into the future. The show works its way through queer identity, desire, shame and the struggle to live in the present, all built around the inability to stay. It's performed in English, Italian and Neapolitan, with surtitles to keep you with it regardless of which language you speak.
Fittipaldi says Liverpool was a deliberate choice for the run, noting a kinship between Neapolitan and Scouse identities in their humour, their physicality and the weight they place on local language. She adds that if she ever adapted the piece into an entirely English-language production, its fierce Neapolitan character would simply become Scouse.
